rec questions

by: Sorority gal

Can recs be from current members of the same sorority that are at a different university? And which sororities require recs to extend a bid?

The policy on recs is different for each national sorority, so you'll have to check each one to see who allows a current active to write one. The active must be in good standing for the rec to be accepted though. Not sure which houses might not require a rec, but they would be an exception if they didn't, and so many girls will have their recs that you are much better off getting one for each house.

SMU Sorority Chapters 1-6 require rec letters and you MUST BE A LEGACY, closely connected / related to one. Otherwise you must be one of the extremely rich, powerful and famous of your recruitment class.

If not, be prepared to be corralled into financially and socially deficient sorority 7 & 8. No matter how good your grades or rec letters make you appear.

Due to quotas, each sorority can accept @ 60 members during the Spring recruitment. 360 mainly SMU Legacies will receive bids from these top 6 sororities and will experience the privileged classic SMU Greek Life.

While the vast majority of SMU's Freshmen ladies will be corralled into a deficient sorority or drop and become a GDI for the Spring. Over 200 Freshman ladies dropped about of 2018 recruitment for these reasons.

Recommendation policies differ by national organizations. The best recommendation comes from an alum from your hometown or someone you've known for a long time. The national panhellenic conference, located in Indianapolis, can tell you if there is an alumnae panhellenic organization in your hometown and if so, how to reach them. These women would be happy to assist you. It is always good to try to obtain your own recommendations and not count on the collegiate members or the chapters to do so as it may fall between the cracks with everything else they have going on. I'd recommend getting your recommendation in as early as possible with so many PNMs going through recruitment.

I wonder how long this mom is going to come on this site and copy and post the same comments. Seriously. Another six months? A year? Wonder how long it will take her to give up. If ever.
