Their house belongs to Phi Kappa Psi. They have been around forever and have involved, dedicated alumni. They will eventually want the house back. Don't know when ZTAs lease is up, though. No other frat houses up for lease at this point. TEP is borderline condemned, and ZBT is leased to the university for 5 years until they take it back.

Phi Kappa Psi will be moving in and ZTA like KD will have to look for a new house. Not sure exactly what their plans are.

There aren't going to be any new chapter houses. As far as greek life and the university goes, nobody is getting a new house any time soon.

There is no place on university grounds to build that hasn't already been reserved by another male organization. So they won't be building anything.

Nope they aren't, rumors

Right now the tentative plans actually lean towards possibly selling the house and building a modern, smaller house for logistical reasons. Thorough research has been done already so the land leasing may not be as much of an issue as you think. Again this is tentative, but it's current.

yeah they most likely wont considering they will not be able to fill it. even if they did zta nationals would not let them go a day without a house. they'd make sure to get them one no matter the cost. their nationals take care of each and every chapter

Nationals don't fund chapter houses. That's up to the chapter and their alumni to fundraise. Zta nationals might try to help them secure a new lease locally, but that's about the extent of it.

To "?" Of course national organizations pay for housing because houses and properties are owned by each national housing corporation of the individual organization. That's why AXO still owns their house even though the chapter is currently defunct. You're not seriously stupid enough to think the accumulated dues of 150 members pay for chapter houses are you? Of course nationals "fund chapter houses" because at the end of the day the national organization is the name on the deed...

The name on the deed is typically the locally incorporated house corporation. The nationals do not own the properties, they are independenly owned by the individual corporations. The nationals advise and regulate the operations, but they don't fund. The Alpha Chi Omega House, for example, is owned and run by their local Gamma Sigma house corp., not their Nationals. The reason frats like Sigma Chi and Chi Phi were able to build new houses was because of the sales of their old houses on Upper College Road to the university (the houses themselves, not the properties), and the resulting management and investment of those funds by their local alumni. Of course I don't think the 40-60 people living in a chapter house are paying the mortgage. Do your homework--any campus where there is greek housing, it is either owned and rented by the university, or the property is purchased after extensive alumni fundraising.

Yeah but clearly you guys don't kniw Zta nationals. They take care of their girls. They want to be the best on every campus and that includes having a a house.

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. You don't think every sorority wants their chapter to be the best in their campus? If you truly believe that ZTA is the only sorority that "takes care of their girls", then you are 1) obviously in Zta, and 2) a complete moron.

Believe what you want. Live in your fantasy world where zta is the only sorority that cares enough about their members to just up and buy them houses, no matter the liability and legal complications that would bring on them.

And to answer the other poster, who knows what's happening? Phi psi seems to realize they won't be able to fill that house, and ZTA is probably the better tenants. Whether they can actually build a "new, smaller, modern" house for Phi psi is very unlikely given the current university master plan and bank financing issues locally.

So here are the facts:

1) ZTA's contract is up
2) There are no other available spaces to build a house on campus...NONE
3) There are no available houses to rent other than ZBT (which is I believe is now under contract with the university).

If ZTA does not manage to renew the contract with Phi Kappa Psi's House Corporation, then their options for housing are null (nothing). I agree with "ha" on several points. The first is: no one knows what is gonna happen. The second is that Phi Psi may soon realize that they do not have the numbers, and that ZTA are the better tenants. (And let's face it ladies, we take way better care of our houses than the boys do!) But the bottom line is this: national organizations do not own houses or property. Will they be involved with helping in regards to contract negotiations...probably. Will they be swooping in to purchase land or housing...not their job, or their responsibility.
