minority's in top frats

I plan on attending Vanderbilt this coming fall and I am very interested in joining a Fraternity. I am African American and all my friends tell me it is more difficult to receive a bid at a top Fraternity on a southern campus like Vanderbilt. Can anyone attest to this? Is it more difficult to join a Fraternity as a minority or is everyone pretty chill with it.
