Type A VS Type B Formal Chairs

Just like in the general public, some of your sorority sisters are going to be Type A personalities and some will be Type B. There’s no problem with that. Throughout my sorority career I’ve seen formal chairs that demonstrate both types of personalities. Let’s take a look at how they handle the task of planning a formal differently.

Getting the Venue

Type A: She has had the venue in mind since she was applying for formal chair and called the venue to book it the day she was named chair.

Type B: She checks her calendar and notices that formal is a month or so away.  Googles “good formal venues” and books the first place on the list that is available on such short notice.

Reminding people to fill out the date survey Type A: Sends out the date survey at least two weeks before people need to actually submit their dates.  She sends out daily reminders to her sisters to fill out the survey to the point that people do the survey just to get her to stop.

Type B: Sends out the survey once a couple of days before she needs the head count and sends out no reminders.  She doesn’t care when people start complaining that they didn’t get their dates in on time.

Booking the entertainment Type A: She does thorough research of every local DJ and band to find the one her sisters will like best.  She likely freaks out the band she books because she is calling about three months in advance.

Type B: Books a DJ that she knows because she doesn’t want to bother to do the research to find a DJ outside of her immediate circle.

Getting Transportation Type A: Haggles with the bus company to try and get nice charter buses for a really good price.  She does this enough in advance that they give her the deal and everyone in the chapter loves her for it.

Type B: Calls the bus company two weeks before formal and gets the worse buses possible, but they don’t break down so she considers that a win.

Day of Formal Type A: She is running around formal trying to fix every little problem that arises.  She may not have during formal, but knowing everyone else is having the best time possible makes it worth it for her.

Type B: If she isn’t a sober monitor, she is knocking back drinks and admiring the work she managed to throw together at the last minute.
