My Rush Experience And Tips

Girls Post-Rush

 Cassie

The recruitment process is extremely exhausting, but I believe it is completely worth the time for every potential Greek college student. It was an experience that I did not expect and will never forget. Waking up at 5am to attempt to make myself look presentable, flirting with girls for hours during the day and struggling to keep my bubbly personality through endless amounts of Red Bulls
. Going through the entire rush process was draining, but in the end completely worth every single hour that was put into it.

There were so many aspects about the Delta Zeta Alpha Chapter at Miami that drew me towards this group of girls. When I saw all the DZs together, I envied the friendships that they developed in the sorority. I quickly felt very comfortable with the girls in DZ and I was able to see myself becoming friends with the other girls going through recruitment as well.

Joining Delta Zeta was one of the best decisions I have made throughout my college career. Not only did I become connected to a network of alumni who are always willing to help a sister out, but I also developed friendships with girls in my sorority that I truly believe will last a lifetime. My sorority sisters are always there whether I need a buddy to help me finish a box of pizza or I need someone to talk to about the struggles of being a college student.

Three years from now, I truly wish every girl currently preparing for spring recruitment can look back and feel as satisfied with their rush decision as I feel today. In order to get there, I’d like to share 10 recruitment tips that helped me during my time as a PNM.

  1. Go into each sorority round with an open mind, there is no need to make pre-judgments.
  2. Always look around at the girls who are in your round, can you imagine these girls being your sisters?
  3. Do not base your decisions off of your friends’ decisions (your freshman year friends may not be the girls you are going to be friends with for the rest of college)
  4. Do not be upset if you don’t end up in the same sorority as your friends. One of the biggest benefits of going Greek will be that you’ll grow your friend network
  5. Do not focus too much on the material aspect of the rush process. Girls want to get to know you more than the clothes you are wearing. It’s hard to be your true self when you’re distracted by fashion self-consciousness.
  6. Be yourself during the conversations. Don’t try to fake being someone you’re not because you won’t want to keep up the charade 4 years.
  7. Take notes after each round because the entire process can be very overwhelming.
  8. You do not have to follow your family’s legacy.
  9. Try to avoid the 4 B’s during conversations (Boys, Bank Account, Bible, & Booze).
  10. Keep in mind that the system always works itself out, you always end up where you should be.
