pnm? read this!!! you need to hear it!

As we know Recruitment is coming up and I know you’re reading all the posts on this site trying to get the “real” information on each sorority/fraternity. Just reminding everyone that nothing on here is really the truth, and each organization is sooo much more than their so called reputation on here.

Let’s get things straight: each chapter at State is great, and has so much to offer! There really is something and some place for everyone! I know it sounds cheesy, but it’s true.

There are so many things to think about when choosing which chapter to join. Their “reputation” isn’t usually a true representation of the chapter. Usually it’s people pointing out and exaggerating the weaker parts of the chapter or holding onto things that happened years ago. Each chapter here is working to improve themselves year after year. Instead of paying attention to the superficial things like how many things they win, how big and new the house is, how many members they have, how long they have been on campus, how pretty the girls are, who dates the guys in the best frat, who associates with what frat etc.

You should really think about what you want out of your future chapter. What kind of people do you want to surround yourself with? What are your values? What are you really looking for? What do you want to become involved in? These are the things that matter your 4 years at State and your lifetime of membership in that sorority or fraternity! Don’t go in thinking you need to be in a “top” house, that mindset will do nothing good for you! Go in with an open mind and don’t let people sway your choice! This is 100% your choice, you need to be selfish about this. Don’t let your friends in various houses or your family tell you where you need to be. Only YOU knows where YOU need to be. Your friends and family would understand, even if your mom, sister, aunt, dad, brother etc is an alum of a chapter at State they will understand. What’s important is that you join the house for your reasons and that you’re happy!!

Go in with an open mind and an open heart, you honestly never know where you’ll end up. So many people go into recruitment thinking they’ll end up at one house and end up at another and they never expected it and loved it! THE MOST IMPORTANT THING OF ALL: BE YOURSELF!!! These chapters are genuinely interested in what you have to say, don’t just say “what you think they wanna hear”. You’ve gotta be truly yourself, and be comfortable. That’s how you’ll find your perfect fit. Once again sounds cliche, but it’s true. Have fun, be yourself and just enjoy this process. Don’t worry about being perfect, just be the best version of yourself and everything will be fine.

It’s a long a exhausting week. So many nerves and so much to be unsure about. I’m a senior, I’ve been in your shoes and I’ve been the recruiter. You as the PNM is nervous, but so are the girls you’re talking to in the houses! Just take a deep breathe, and relax. Everything happens for a reason!! This is such an exciting time for everyone involved! Remember what this is all about, join for the right reasons and be 100% yourself.
