pledge tasks aren’t hazing

by: Truth

New members have the duty to perform additional responsibilities to earn the trust of initiated actives.

Change my mind.

Why do you get off making some people feel inferior? Just asking for a friend.

I don't think it has to do with making people feel inferior, it's just most actives had to clean up a lot after people when they were pledges and want to have the same benefits as those older than them had. I'm not saying it's morally just, but older guys in fraternities feel like the pledges should have to clean the house just as they did.

Well,

What's ironic about the "it's always been that way" excuse, is that it has not always been that way. While hazing existed, it certainly didn't rise to what we have seen in recent years. FH actions being the most public example. You are correct in that "men" of such a young age are the ones that are so reluctant to change, even when the actions being committed are so obviously egregious. So how does it stop? Because, the more it happens, the more involvement you are going to see from Nationals and the University. If you don't start policing yourselves, somebody else is going to do it for you and you won't be happy with the results.
