OOR PNM CLASS OF 22

by:

As an OOR PNM I realize I can't change where I am from or my grades/resume at this point. I know I will find my perfect house through the process, but I am a bit curious about these other PNMS. Who are these "perfect" or "top" Southern PNMs that are so wanted? What exactly do they have to offer? I am just curious as to why a house would pass me over if I am not from Alabama, but I may just stack up amazingly compared to many of them.

Because these girls have connections, meaning they are already known in certain houses through friends from the same high school or the same hometown, and people know them or know of them through this network. Yes, you may very well stack up amazingly compared to many of them, but recruitment is more than just about grades and resumes. There are literally 1000 girls who have just as good grades and resumes as each other going through every year. Sororities are social organizations, so recruiting people from certain social circles is only natural. But that's not to say no one outside of the South doesn't get a bid from one the in-state heavy houses. Recruitment is in person for a reason; show up with your A game and you may be surprised. Good luck.

I promise you, it’s not that deep. The OR/NR is completely inflated by NR girls who are trying to scare you. Literally talks about OR more than NR houses who cant pull the OOR girls they want.

honestly many oor girls have much better grades than in state girls (presidential scholarship recipients ect) but arent top pnms since they dont know 10 girls in each house from highschool

Sorry I am dumb what and how do you receive presidential scholarship? I know for my state (GA) we have a scholarship called hope but you can only go to a in state school. It covers 80% of tuition I think? Is the presidential similar or completely different?

UA offers a ton of scholarships for out of state students. Depending on your GPA and ACT/SAT scores you can qualify for anywhere from a practically free ride (Presidential Scholarship) to a big chunk of your tuition paid for. That is a big draw for out of state students along with Greek life and football.

Girls want some of their friends to join their sorority; it’s simple as that. Who would you pull for during voting: someone you’ve known for years and love or a stranger that’s good on paper? At a higher level, like who OR houses are after because their alums have pull too, they want girls that will go back to the big hometowns with good schools that will always feed girls to Bama. They’ll be involved in their communities, involved as an alum, and send their kids to Bama too. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Hey hey Mama
You need to get a hobby

This is Greek rank
No one takes this seriously

Hey Mama
We are sorry you grew up in Decatur live in Decatur and only ever been in Decatur

But there are 50 states in the USA and
Alabama seems to welcome the best of the best

So maybe here’s a thought

You should get off Greek Rank and oh yes

Stop telling the students what to do cause they can think for themselves

and not everyone wants to go home to Decatur

Or Mountain Brook or Mobile or Fairhope

But we all still love the TIDE

(Get off Greek rank mama)

Calm down. Nobody's telling anyone what to do. People are asking why their stellar grades and resume aren't enough to get them any bid they want. They are getting a truthful explanation.

1) You may have top grades and activities where you come from but so do lots of others and there are TONS of girls just as good. Welcome to the big wide world of college. 2) People are always going to choose their friends first. This will happen when you look for a job too, and you will do the same when it's your turn to make those decisions.

Nobody is saying that OOR girls are a bad choice or that alumnae make all the recruitment decisions. Chapters choose who they want, and different chapters choose differently.

The "top" houses are totally open for interpretation. People on here "build up" certain houses - most of it is completely B.S. One that grew up in Alabama may think that certain houses are "the best", but for someone who grew up in Chicago or NYC may find a different house / group of girls more appealing to them. Any pnm's that are on here - look at the girls that are in the house - pay attention to your conversations that you are having. Do you see yourself fitting in? This is especially true Pref day. Go where you feel comfortable and around girls that are going to build you up. Do NOT listen to "tent talk" - (girls bad mouthing or building up other houses as better).
Good Luck - these are exciting times - it is all worth it in the end.

My best advice for OOR - Pay special attention to PiPhi, AdPi, Zeta, PhiMu, GPhi, DZ and Theta. These houses have the most girls represented from all over the country and don't exclude girls. OR houses are not "better"...I am dumbfounded how pnm's get so upset, crying on the sidewalks, over getting dropped from a house that they wouldn't feel welcomed in anyway.

If a house passes you over - no worries. So many amazing houses at UA. Southern houses go after girls in their zip codes - the "modern" houses go after "modern" girls. All good...

When was the last time anyone thought of any part of Alabama outside of Tuscaloosa (thanks to the OR students) as being desirable or fashionable? Why would anyone want to be in the houses with girls from in state? So they can date guys that are short prematurely balding and have beer guts from Mobile and MB? No thanks

So many local boys are short!!!

Why even come here if that’s how you feel. The girls that get it, get it (no matter where they are from) and the girls that don’t.... well, they cry on the sidewalks.

You come on here to rank, give advice, share experiences. The girl is asking advice and some of this advice is honest...

LOL! - There are a lot of short guys I have noticed. I also agree - I DO NOT understand the crying on the sidewalks / tents. Girls need to spend their time during recruitment getting to know the girls in the house - focus on their conversations - learning the philanthropy / activities / looking at the values etc of the girls in the house - not what the letters are. BIG cuts are made the first round - mainly due to GPA. My roommate had a complete meltdown after first round cuts. She had a 3.5 GPA - I had a 4.4 GPA and got 12 houses back. Honestly, it wasn't until the next rounds that you could have any meaningful conversations. I really feel most girls end up where they belong. You will hear "trust the process" a lot. It really is true. It is stressful to make it to the end between the heat, crying girls and lack of sleep - but when you run home to your house, the fun begins.
