What would be considered a "big girl"?

And if it does, then you don't want to be around anyone like that. I know for a fact that there are all sizes in every single sorority and no one cares ( someone lmk about phi mu and alpha phi bc those are the only 2 that everyone mentions appearance issues.)

If anyone answers this and says what a weight needs to be, ignore it. That is so demeaning.

I can also attest that there are girls of every size in ALL the sororities, even the more appearance conscious houses like Phi Mu, Zeta, and Alpha Phi. I'm not going to lie, we do care about appearance during rush, but it's not the way you may think... We want to see girls dressed well and caring themselves highly. It doesn't matter if you're as slim as can be or if you're heavier, if you can't make yourself look presentable or have a good conversation then we won't want you.
My tips if you're rushing and "bigger" than most girls:
- Practice hair and makeup over the summer and make sure it can last hours in extreme heat
- Spend serious time finding outfits that are cute and classy but also flattering, the best thing you can do is really show up with a stellar outfit
- Bring water and handheld fans!
- Make a list of all your good characteristics/past activities that you can "brag" about to the houses

This comment is perfect!! If you are put together and involved and seem like someone who will be successful in college you will appeal to most houses. And if you don't, would you want to be someone so superficial anyways? Put your best foot forward because that's all any PNM can do anyways

I'm going to be honest here. Fit girls are more preferable to bigger girls. There are of course girls of every size in all houses, but pretty, well-dressed, and fit girls will set a better first impression. It might be cutting it close, but if your weight is something that you can change in these few months before recruitment.

If you're 5'6, anything larger than a dress size 6 would probably be considered a "bigger girl."

Weight is such a terrible way to define it because of different heights/ builds.

This whole thread is just sad and judgmental. Bday shaming isn't very Christian ladies!!! Anything over a size 6 is considered bigger? Are you kidding me???? Body frames muscle mass etc... all effect weight.

We're not all Cheistians on this board, on campus and in your precious little sorority house. This is the real world now, and not everyone is a Christian. GET OVER IT.

You can definitely have muscles and be a size 6 dress. And don't be dramatic. No one needs to "starve" to be in shape. Just skip the butter, cut the fried chicken, and hit the gym 3x a week. At 18, it should be the easiest to lose weight. Hard truth for PNMs is you can sit there on your computer, swallow your iced tea and cry about how unfair the world is, or you can make a lifestyle change to affect your chances at recruitment (and life, really). No pain no gain.

This sort of attitude is why so many teenage girls develop eating disorders, something that i KNOW has been a problem in some sororities here because there is so much pressure to look perfectly put-together 24/7.

Newsflash: You can have perfectly healthy lifestyle habits and still be above a size 6. And if you think that someone's weight is even CLOSE to the most important thing about them, you can F right off.

To everyone commenting about a certain size PNMs should be, y'all should be ashamed of yourselves. It's actually disgusting that y'all feel the need to body shame girls who could potentially be your new sisters and it's awful that y'all care more about appearances than grades, involvement, character, etc.

EVERY house has girls as thin as a stick and EVERY house has girls who are overweight and "bigger" than most other girls. It doesn't matter your weight, houses want to see well rounded girls who have good grades, good involvement, can have a good conversation, and can carry herself well. Just like all the other PNMs, skinny or not, if you have a competitive resume then houses will want you.

However, if you really do feel self conscious about your weight then you do have a little less than two months in which you could definitely see a change in your body if you begin a healthy and pro-fit regime. But PLEASE do not feel the need to do this. Trust me when I say you'll come through rush and you'll really be able to feel where the girls are most supportive of each other, regardless of weight, background, etc.

If there are any houses that have weight limits in place, they would without a doubt be Phi Mu, Zeta and Alpha Phi.

So if that's the level of superficial you're looking for, then pledge one of those and you'll fit right in.

You are a liar! You said IF there were houses,it would be those. I am in one of those and we DO NOT have a weight limit. You are a lying hag for your misleading comment. You should just rot for your evil heart, honey.

Completely depends on your height and frame. I'm like 5'2" and have a small frame so 160 lbs would look huge on me (like actually obese), but would look healthy on a girl who is 5'10". To be completely honest I DO judge girls who are obese. It tells me that the girl does not take care of herself. Girls who are a little overweight are no big deal, but if you're 200lbs and 5'4"...that's a problem.

Girl you’re disgusting. Mind your business and stop body shaming. PCOS is a great example of a medical condition causing women to be overweight despite continuous efforts to lose weight. You shouldn’t be in a sorority or around anyone if you’re so shallow.
