Overrated

About 35% of the 35,000 student population is Greek. Giant houses make it quite expensive to join, especially the sororities. Men have more choice among fraternities - some fraternities are unhoused or only have small houses and thus aren't as costly. Greeks do a lot of community work, but parties are the thing here. Schools is not as easy as many think to get into. Hazing is still a thing, mostly among the older fraternities, and can be quite harsh, but it's not nearly as bad as it used to be. Most newer groups don't haze, or only do light hazing. Sororities absolutely do not haze, and if a new member reports hazing, the sorority is dealt with immedately and sternly. Fair alumnae support...advisers may come from Birmingham since Tuscaloosa is not that large. Even in a small group, a student will enjoy great brother/sisterhood and fabulous parties. Non-greeks eventually seem to find their groups, but it's much harder and some never connect.

You literally need a pulse to get into this school which explains the amount of airheads that go here. All people care about here is football, Greek life and partying. Not academics.

I don’t go to either of these schools but All the annoying stuck up, snobby, wannabe spoiled brats from my high school go to Bama and all the authentic, down to earth, classy girls go to auburn. Just saying…
