Rising and Falling Frats (March 2023)

Rush has come and gone, pledging is largely over, and we now finally have a good picture of who won and who lost. Let’s get into it.

Rising:
Chi Phi - this frat has been talked about as next-up recently, and they pulled in a great PC this year. Probably the most popular frat that hasn’t been problematic/creepy and that’s no doubt why their rush went so well.

DX - I hate to say it because there’s so much grinding on this site, but yes, DX is rising. I know some of their PC personally and they’re great kids. Locked in a lot early through dirty rush. The question is if they can keep momentum going throughout the next couple semesters.

Lambda - they took a great PC, handpicking it out of tons of rushes that had Lambda as their top option. Got everyone they wanted, more or less. The step to moving up and mixing better is just making sure they can stay off SoPro and out of trouble.

Pike - this frat did unexpectedly well for the second year in a row, taking in 20+ guys this rush. Got pretty much everyone they wanted, limited cross rush with other mids. Time will tell if they can keep the momentum going, main roadblock is throwing better parties.

Steady:
AD, Sig Chi - not much to say about these guys. Steady at the top. AD got everyone they wanted and Sig Chi managed a pretty good save last-second.

Chi Psi - pretty normal rush for them. Took C4 rejects, but managed a pretty large class. Throw pretty frequent parties. Poised to stay just below Top status.

ZBT - don’t know much about how they did, but the fact I haven’t heard much makes me think they probably didn’t do too bad or exceptionally well. Will continue to be slightly above Chi Phi for now.

Pikapp - had a pretty normal rush. Lots of cross rush with other mids, as well as upper mid frats. Didn’t necessarily get everyone they wanted but their PC turned out pretty well. They will probably continue occupying the niche of being one of the better party houses, and one of the most frequent hosts.

Phi Tau - just ok, didn’t get a lot of guys they wanted, but still got some, Pikapp stole a ton. Bad house and bad location limits their potential. Pretty close to falling but not quite.

Falling:
DU - took a bad PC, lot of football kids that won’t really be as present. They’ve messed up rush pretty often to the point they’re in danger of falling out of Top. Still above DX for now.

Sig Phi - took a great PC, but got put on deferred suspension for more than a year. House probably won’t be the same once their punishment ends. Brutal break for a good house.

Sig Pi - took kids that got rejected from mid frats, and only managed around a 13 person PC. Bad look for them. Fall rush went well so that’s saving them from totally plummeting right now.

PSK - probably has fallen out of mid. Was relevant for 2 weeks when no houses on West had their fire safety approved. New PC isn’t great and won’t help elevate an already falling house.
