This round was surprising…

How can chapters make such massive cuts without even talking to the PNM’s? I would think the cuts would be light- on round 1- grade issues, no recs, etc. I’m surprised Panhellenic would allow such steep cuts based on videos- not a good look for A&M sororities.

They have to. Our campus (and almost every other Panhellenic in the US) uses a computer program called RFM that tells each chapter how many PNM’s they have to release (cut) after each round. The goal is to have every chapter make quota. Chapters with high return rates (a high % of PNM’s ranking them high because they want to return the next round) have to cut more PNM’s.

Before RFM, top chapters would carry more PNM’s and then cut them all the morning of sisterhood or Pref, leaving them with no options. RFM allows PNM to more quickly get down to the chapters who are really interested in them. This was back in the 90’s…multiple chapters closed within 10 years because they were literally only getting 5-20 NM’s when quota was 60+. Trust me, this system is MUCH better and has made our whole Panhellenic system stronger.

It does really suck when they haven’t met you yet but even in a normal year, you’re barely talking to anyone for more than a few minutes. They’re not really getting to know you in that little time and most chapters already have a pretty big cut list before Open House even starts based on minimum GPA, girls without recs, etc.

It’s true. It sucks, but it’s all true. And remember, it’s not an A&M thing, it’s a Panhellenic thing. There are so many awesome ladies going through. And when the “lower tiers” get quota of great girls, it makes all chapters stronger. Look at Alabama. All of their houses would be considered top anywhere in the country. RFM makes that possible.

A&M needs more sororities if this many girls are going through, and getting dropped after day 1….

No we don’t. We have fourteen chapters, thirteen do formal recruitment. I highly doubt anyone was completely released today. So just be open to who you have left. Why should we have more sororities? Just so girls can feel better about having whatever tier they have left? Rejection sucks. It’s a BIG lesson a lot of girls really learn for the first time. There will always be someone better, prettier, more involved, etc. y’all have more competition now that you aren’t in your high school. Welcome to the world.

More sororities would allow for smaller 1quota numbers, smaller numbers of PN in rounds through recruitment, then actives and PNM’s getting to know each other better. All the large Greek schools have way more sororities than A&M and more girls have a chance at finding a close sisterhood.

That’s not even true. Arkansas has such a big Greek culture and they have 11 sororities with more girls rushing. People at tamu don’t get completely dropped from the process but at other schools it happens a lot more often

Talk this over with your Rho Gam. That's what they are there for. I don't think this is a healthy place for you to voice your genuine concerns. Too many active member on here forgetting where they've been and how delicate these situations can be.

KEEP IN MIND- so many girls were cut this first round and dispersed into other chapters. Great great great, fantastic girls, like you, filling into other chapters. You will have a pledge class somewhere with so many girls alike because there are too many of you to just be in one particular house. There are incredible girls passing through rush this year and it will make every chapter here at A&M so much stronger. Do not get discouraged. You will find girls in the same head space and by luck will have it, at the same party or same chapter on bud day. Especially these next rounds, look who is standing next to you in the lines at each party. This will be your future pledge class.

This happens at every school. It’s a numbers game. The vast majority of PNM’s are beautiful, smart, involved, etc.. each house can only keep so many. The “top” houses have to make the biggest cuts. But the good news is that wherever you land, you will have a pledge class of awesome, beautiful, smart, involved girls!
