is spring recruitment intense?

by: PNM

Hi, I'm a current senior and am planning on going to Syracuse next year and rushing in the spring. How intense is the process compared to big southern schools, such as UT or Ole Miss. Also, do any girls ever get dropped by all of the sororities?

If you want to be in a sorority, you should have no trouble getting into one. However, what many fail to address is the fact that you may get dropped by every chapter you feel you click with. And although this is said all the time, the best advice is to go in with an open mind and try to stick out the process even if you're disappointed on certain days. There will be girls who could truly belong in certain houses but for some reason fall through the cracks of the system, and get dropped. Doesn't make them any less pretty or cool than girls who got into other houses. More importantly than anything, don't focus on ranks. They are sooo not important once you truly start to get involved in Greek life. As far as comparing it to southern schools, definitely not as intense, but it is becoming increasingly more competitive with each year. Just be yourself and you'll be fine :)

Southern schools are much crazier when it comes to recruitment- you need recommendation letters and the competition is insane. At Cuse it isn't quite as bad, because they do increase pledge class sizes depending on the interest and number of rush signups. That being said, being dropped is still a possibility. Since Cuse does their rush second semester, and most southern schools do it in the fall right when school starts, it does give you time to prepare yourself. I'd recommend making sure you have a stronger GPA heading into rush, because a lot of houses might base cuts in first round on GPAs. Talking to and getting to know any sophomores or upperclassmen in your classes (you'll see them wearing their letters) is also a good idea because if they know who you are going into rush, it helps you stand out more amongst a crowd of girls coming through the house. Snd, as others have said, keep an open mind and be yourself. You will be fine.
