rush

by: mo

rush can be hard on some girls from not getting any houses back or dropping rush all together. so for any girls in that position right now it’s okay and i feel for you. it happens a lot to great girls every year. watch for cob and spring rush if you really are set on joining a house!

COB is a great way to rush a sorority. Especially for girls without great grades or connections. The groups can offer you a bid based on getting to know you. If you are shy this is a better opportunity to show who you are instead of just being a number on a resume. I highly suggest girls who dropped or were dropped to look into COB. Every year some great groups end up taking on some great girls.

If you didn’t go through formal, consider this a blessing. You saved yourself the wasted money and stress. Contact Pan and make sure they know you are interested. If you know girls in sorority let them know you are interested in case their group is looking for new members.

Groups will have one or two spots, some will have 20 depending on how many girls graduated, went to OUHSC, etc.

Go for it!!!

Taking place? Seems like there is conflicting info.

Total has not been set yet. Once Pan sets total there will be 5 or 6 chapters who are under total. (Total is the mean # of members in each chapter).
Some chapters will know they are going to come under total based on early grads, nursing students, etc. They start planning activities now. You can’t recruit past Total. Some groups could have one spot. Others will have a larger group.
OU Panhellenic usually has a form on their website. And passes your interest to eligible chapters. But it is good to ask close friends if they are in a sorority to get a head start. The sooner you join, you start the new member stuff with the rest of your PC. .

I am not pan, so I don't know for sure. But COB will begin soon. Fill out the interest form on their website. Email them with any questions you have.

COB happens in the fall and the spring. In the spring some call it "Spring Rush". But it is still just COB.

And anyone who says groups that COB are "less than" is full of crap. Every semester HALF our sororities are eligible for COB. And our panhellenic is just too strong to consider any of our groups less than any other. Much less 5 or 6 of them. lol

Good luck. Don't get too much advice from here. Even if it seems some of us know stuff. Go straight to the source. Email panhellenic. They are super nice people!

ou needs more houses, period.

by: yes, but noAug 14, 2019 4:47:48 PM

Yes OU needs more houses. But not until we see a quota closer to 100. The houses need those high numbers to support the houses, especially those with 70+ beds to fill.
What we need is to not have almost 1200 girls sign up, only to have quota end up being in the low 80s.
Panhellenic needs to start studying the data.
I would love to see how many girls dropped with houses still on their schedule. And how many were dropped because they had no invitations.
Of the ones who were dropped totally, what was their GPA? How many did they have on each round? There has to some commonality that we can assist these girls with. Even if it is just recommending COB for a certain GPA point.
For the girls who dropped with invitations. Find out what their profile is, what are we not telling them? Most probably don't know how many girls really go back with full schedules. My guess is about 10%. But that data might help some girls stay in. There has to be some sort of counseling or marketing we can do to keep these girls in the system.

OU Panhellenic needs to use the data they have, get some sorority data scientist intern that can be trusted and use it to improve. Until Pan gets the drop situation handled I would totally be against bringing in another house.

I had 3 houses left and dropped. before you shame me for dropping, i was told by girls i knew in houses that i would almost certainly get a bid from them, and got cut the 3rd day. i know they can’t guarantee bids, but i trusted what my connections had told me. really looking forward to cob.

girls aren’t going to stop dropping until they stop going on set in two or three houses, or until all the houses rush fairly. girls drop every single year because they get cut by houses that seem more appealing than others (which stems from this site), or sadly receive no invites back. rush is fun and exciting but leaves some heartbroken. hoping our pan situation gets better in the next few years.

A full new house could have started just out of the girls who dropped and got released.

The thing is, the girls that dropped because they only had bottom houses are not going to join the "new house" which on here will be for sure the lowest house.

What needs to be done is sensible people need to flood greek rank with more positive messages.

i rushed a few years back and the same thing happened to me and i was cut by all the top houses that i wanted. i did spring rush and end up in a great place even though it’s not where i thought i would be! rush can be so upsetting if you don’t get the house you want but don’t give up completely, there’s a lot of organizations and clubs to be involved with too

In order to get into a “top” house, you have to have very strong connections and know lots of girls or blow them away during rush. we typically see girls from the same towns or friend groups go to those houses. all the other houses aside from those look for more than what you appear to be like on the outside, or how much money your family has. unfortunate, but the truth.

Some houses choose not to pre judge either and actually get to know he girls first. That’s how houses are getting better. They’re getting girls who get overlooked just because they don’t know anyone. All the houses are good at OU

Would love to hear! If you don’t want to give the house, that’s ok! Just love to hear As many as possible found a Greek home.

Nothing wrong w the houses who do cob- at all. Wish the whole Greek community would embrace this and be happy for those who find their people. Ladies, we are better together. One rises — all rise.
