gpa 2.9
by: Lucy22345My gpa is a 2.9. I’m attending the university from out of state, I live in Florida. I am worrried that when I go out of state I won’t have many friends at first, so I want to rush a sorority. I realize that my gpa is pretty low for many of them, but my goal is to get it up a little by the end of my senior year, but I don’t know if I can do it by much. Does anyone know what sororities would take my gpa? I’m a fun and out going person, I like to go out a lot, and I’m really easy to talk to. Thanks!

You are at a slight disadvantage with your GPA, however you still have a chance with a great sorority. Recruitment is a process. First make sure you have some stellar rec letters to every sorority. When you get to campus make a point to meet girls from all the different sororities. Some of the sororities on campus are more about in state/connections, but we have some incredible sororities made up of OOS students. Your resume should show school and community involvement and highlight your leadership roles. Go into Recruitment with an open mind and be yourself. If you are invited to a sorority than accept the invitation and know that sorority wants you!

Great advice above...and here's mine.
1) Don't take it personally when you are cut. Rush at OM is extremely competitive and there are cuts for grades, having no connections and cuts that happen seemingly for no reason. I've known girls who got so upset when they were cut that it affected the rest of their rush.
2) Every house has great girls. Ignore the tier talk, go to every party as if it's the house you want (even if you might not think so) and try to have fun.
3) Make sure your resume shows any leadership positions you held, not just activities.
4) Polish your style and conversation skills; first impressions matter. Don't talk non-stop; I've seen girls cut because they talked non-stop and never let actives speak - literally. This is especially important when no-one knows you and can't vouch for you being great.
5) Do you know any Ole Miss alums who can write recs? Those carry more weight than non-OM alums, but get recs from anyone you can.
6) I hate this cliche, but it's true: trust the process.
7) Realize that rush is stressful for everyone.
8) If you get a bid, show up at your new home with gratitude and excitement. That means we want you and are thrilled, so please be excited too (some girls aren't...).
