At most schools, if a PNM maximizes her options all week and writes down all houses she went to pref for, she is guaranteed a bid. Why is it that at Indiana, a PNM can maximize her options all week, attend pref for three houses, write them all down, and still not get a bid?

Bed quota. There are simply not enough spots for every girl to get a bid, even if you maximize your options and do everything right, unfortunately. The bid rate for girls is about 50%.

I just find that weird. Other schools raise/lower quota depending on number of PNMs that come through, or even raise campus total if they have to. Does IU not do that?

To the person above me: have you SEEN the quality of Alabama's sorority girls compared to yours? There is literally no comparison. Or a school like Ole Miss, or FSU, or Arizona, where most PNMs DO get bids. The sororities at IU cut SO MANY quality girls it's ridiculous. That doesn't make y'all's system "elite" it makes it screwed up.

It's not the alums that vote at Panhel meetings. If the houses wanted it to change it would, don't blame the alums. Most chapters don't even have full alum advisory boards. It's the "top tier" chapters that don't want it to change. They want to seem elite because they only take 35 members when the others are taking 50 members. At SEC schools the chapters with the smallest pledge classes are the weakest, the ones no one wants to join. I don't get why it's the opposite here.

It's elite to the upper tier sororities/fraternities on campus, at least in their own minds, but not to anyone else on or off campus.
