It's a selfish system, based on the faulty assumption that tradition is always best and if I made it through, it must not be that bad. Time to grow up Panhel, IU and NPC. Totally against the purpose of GLO to empower women - this system beats many down and then laughs about it.

Maybe this is for the best. If your daughter and her friend feel that unhoused sororities are beneath them, then they absolutely should drop out and make space for girls who would LOVE to have this experience! win win--your daughter is happy with her choice and space is made available for sweet girls who want to have fun and sisterhood.

It is hard to tell where you fit in, in the very beginning. It really is goes by who you talk to and did you clique? Maybe this girl who was dropped did not have a connection with certain sororities. What it is, plain and simple 2000 girls went through rush and there is only room for less than half. It is a huge lottery. Girls who got dropped are not any better than ones who didn't. The ones who still are in the game are just lucky.

It's because those PNMs rank only on reputation after the first rounds. They aren't honest with themselves. They make it through the first cuts with the upper tiers then boom! They are left with no one when they get the inevitable cuts.

PNMs don't "drop" anyone. They rank and can only go back to so many. The chapters do all the "dropping".

You're wrong. It is much more mutual in the first two rounds. A lot of PNMs who have no real hope for the higher tiered groups get asked back. If they ranked those groups high, then they're going to those houses and giving up houses where they'd fit in better and would still have a chance with. You know exactly what people mean when they say PNMs don't see clearly where they belong. They put on their recruitment goggles and reject houses with lower reputations all because they're sure they deserve to be in one of the top houses ... even though they know they won't fit in deep down. It's human nature to want "the best" which is not necessarily the best for you.

It's true. A lot of PNM's get to 9 party with a full or almost full schedule of upper tier houses which seems great but is really not a good situation to be in. Those are the houses that do the most cutting and you are more likely to not get any or just one pref invite. When you don't have any less competitive sororities in the mix at that point, it's easier to end up getting completely cut.

I'd encourage her to find other groups and activities on campus and let her make up her mind at a much later date. It's even harder as a sophomore.

are you in a house? if so, would your sister fit in at that house? can you facilitate your sister becoming friends with as many of your sorority sisters or panhellenic sisters as possible so she has connections next year?

If you pay attention to the names, you would realize that you are responding to the wrong person. I am the person who said my daughter and her friend dropped out. But I must agree that if you girls are examples of the girls that are in the sororities, I too am glad they dropped out as some of you are very rude.

We're just telling you the truth. You come on here acting like your daughter and her friend are victims. Your username says "not a sorority fan" even though 3 perfectly good chapters were clearly a fan of your daughter. She just didn't want them. We're not going to have any sympathy for you when there are other girls who received 0 invitations. Being a part of a sorority shouldn't be just about living in a house. Sure, that's a big part of it, but you can't always get what you want. And the fact that you aren't teaching your daughter that says a lot about you. Sometimes you don't get what you want in life. It's no one's fault. So don't blame the sororities. Either adjust your expectations and make the most of what you've got (attend the parties at the unhoused chapters) or move on. But don't be bitter about it.
