sorority rush
by: 00everyones saying how difficult it is to get into a good house, i don't understand why. What differentiates this rush compared to other schools?

There are two main things that differentiate IU's recruitment from other campuses. The first is called bed rush. Chapters at IU decide how large their pledge classes based on a number of factors: how large each class is, how many women graduated, how many women resign their membership, how large the house is, if they allow live outs, etc. On all other campuses Panhel decides how large pledge classes will be based on the number of women who attend preference parties. In this system, it is possible for every woman who attends a preference party to receive a bid. In IU's system, by mid fall each chapter knows what their quota will be. So if 21 chapter decide their quota will be 50, only 1050 women will get bids. If 1700 women sign up for recruitment, then this means that 650 women will be able to receive bids.
The other main difference is called quota/total. On other campuses, Panhel sets a cap on the number of women each chapter can have. Chapters who are below total are highly encouraged by their national organization to hand out bids until the reach that total number. IU allows each chapter to determine how many women they want to have in their chapters. This is partially due to the fact that some of the chapter houses only sleep 80 something and others sleep 130 women. Chapters sizes at IU vary from 130-220 prior to recruitment.
Due to these differences, you are lucky to get a bid to any of the 21 chapters. There are no bad chapters at IU.

Whoever said you just need to be pretty: this is not true. you need total package. You could be the prettiest girl ever but if you’re weird you’re not getting a bid. Looks for sure matter but you gotta fit in with the other girls/ overall vibe of the house to get a bid there. You’ll find where u fit

IU USED to have bed rush. They now use RFM and the quota system. Quota last year was 63, and quota is set AFTER preference based off of the number of PNMs left in the process. All chapters except 3 took 63 NMs, with the largest class being over 80. IU has a pretty decent amount of women who drop out of the process because they don't like their choices, which dwindles down that 1,700 a bit.
