Retention issues for any sorority occur when students transfer to a smaller school; transfer to a school better for their new major; and when students spend a semester overseas away from everyday fraternal duties then decide when they return to "go alum" and skip the rest of their undergrad sorority years. In my experience these reasons occur more frequently than the "I hate my sorority and just want to drop it forever already" retention issue.
IU demands a lot from its students in order to graduate, and if someone is spending a lot of good money to get an education they may be more inclined to relax their expensive and/or time consuming fraternal obligation during a junior or senior year.

This is IU. It's a big school with a reputation for partying. The school is gonna attract some stereotypical hot, party girls. It is going to happen. They won't care as much for grades as other houses because they will be having such a fun time partying with people. The tier is based on social status on campus. Therefore, the sororities who party the most/hardest will be higher up. There is a correlation between partying and lower grades. It's not exactly rocket science to discover why that is.
