grades\total?

by: PNM?

Shocked the Top 5 Sorority's GPA are at the bottom. Why? Second the total # of members for each house is very different. Please explain?

IU does not have a uniform chapter total like most schools, each chapter sets their own total.

As to your other question...lol are you serious?

Hey still waiting for like a real answer!Numbers don't lie. Why such retention issues for these houses. Most campuses with top houses are the Whole package that includes grades!

This is IU. It's a big school with a reputation for partying. The school is gonna attract some stereotypical hot, party girls. It is going to happen. They won't care as much for grades as other houses because they will be having such a fun time partying with people. The tier is based on social status on campus. Therefore, the sororities who party the most/hardest will be higher up. There is a correlation between partying and lower grades. It's not exactly rocket science to discover why that is.

Honestly, having the biggest chapter isn't always the best. Smaller chapters often have tighter sisterhoods because you get to know everyone better. As long as a chapter is taking quota, they are solid.

Yeah, DZ known for it's tight sisterhood.

And that's not true about quota and you're good, either. A chapter can take quota and have terrible retention issues and be well below average chapter size. Since IU doesn't have campus total, most national organizations use average chapter size as a measure.

You are correct. Retention is very telling. Much more important than chapter size. If women are dropping after being initiated, it is telling. DZ and Zeta are not doing well on that front.

Retention issues for any sorority occur when students transfer to a smaller school; transfer to a school better for their new major; and when students spend a semester overseas away from everyday fraternal duties then decide when they return to "go alum" and skip the rest of their undergrad sorority years. In my experience these reasons occur more frequently than the "I hate my sorority and just want to drop it forever already" retention issue.

IU demands a lot from its students in order to graduate, and if someone is spending a lot of good money to get an education they may be more inclined to relax their expensive and/or time consuming fraternal obligation during a junior or senior year.

Few NPC chapters allow actives to simply designate themselves as "alum" status to forego obligations Jr and Sr year. Most of the retention issues have to do with disciplinary or financial matters more than anything.
