question about pref night
by: Freshman girlMy sister was in a sorority so I know a little bit about the process. I know on the last night you visit your top sororities. Obviously everyone is going to say the best things about the one they picked/that picked them, but what did you like about your other top choices? How did you pick?

PC2012's experience is actually very similar to mine. I ruled out AEPHi, SDT, Pi Phi, Phi Sig, and DG. I did consider KKG though because they seemed like fun.
Of the 3 I went to on pref night (luckily was able to go to 3 I liked and none of the ones I ruled out), I got a bid to my third choice pick. I was nervous going into it because I liked them during rush but didn't LOVE them. They were a mixed bag with some awesome girls and some that I wasn't too fond of. But I decided to give it a shot and now I'm in love with them. The girls I'm not nuts about I never interact with anyway, and I feel like it all happened for a reason. So I guess... I'm an example of someone who didn't get the exact one she wanted but wound up SUPER happy. I couldn't be more in love with my sorority now (I have to admit, my sorority is not considered bottom tier so that helps.) My advice is no matter who you get a bid from, just give it a try. If you drop before you are initiated which happens about a month later, you are allowed to rush again as a sophomore.

Sooooooo many girls with that same story. They didn't get their first choice but they gave the one they got invited to a shot and now they are in love with it. To girls rushing- it's very important to be open to as many as possible because there's a good chance you won't get a bid from the one you've got your eye on.

Alpha Phi
Sigma Kappa
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Alpha Delta Pi
Chi Omega
Kappa Delta
The ones not worth considering:
Delta Gamma
Alpha Epsilon Phi (unless you're really into judaism and nose jobs)
Pi Beta Phi
Sigma Delta Tau
Phi Sigma Sigma
KD wasn't there when I rushed but of the other 5 worth considering, I went into pref night with the 3 I was asked back to (two had dropped me) and also asked my friends which they were thinking of joining. I was influenced by my friends who mostly wanted a certain chapter. So that was the chapter I ranked first. I wound up getting my second choice and I'm really happy I did because I love the one I wound up in. Sometimes not getting your first choice is a really good thing because now, I can't picture myself in that chapter at all.

Agree with your list of ones worth/not worth considering, although I'd side note that if you want to be in a sorority with "class" don't consider KKG.

100% with you on which ones are and are not worth considering. I would not consider KKG because I'm just not that type of girl but I get that they are still a very strong chapter and others like them.

I kind of went by ruling them out. Like I ruled out ADPi because they really annoyed me (too loud and perky and try-hard) and DG because I could just see how fake they were. I preffed KKG, Chi O, and SK and then picked the one where the girls seemed to like/want me the most. I'm happy to say I got my first choice.

I think you need to look at whats best for you. As with the first commenter I made my decision between APhi, SK, and ADPi. I think that's common among most girls. Then its about what you value from there. I have good friends in all of them, so its safe to say most girls are similar throughout those three

You are clearly an ADPi based on all the comments you've been making on this website. You think we can't tell which sorority is writing which comments?
Also, most of the ADPIs I know also preffed Pi Phi and/or SDT. Very few also went to Alpha Phi or SK. Just sayin.

Hi just gonna through a curve ball. Everyone looks at different sororities for different reasons i personally looked aphi,sdt and aephi. all have there perks no matter what any greek rank says. I had a tough decision but in the long run thought about the girls i would see as my bridesmaids and would be there for me the next four years.
you have to what makes the most sense for you, not whats cool but rather whats more you.

Very true. But some girls are definitely influenced by being close to girls in the same sorority at other schools, like legacies or girls whose best friend from high school joined x sorority at x school.
