by: Onmpppp

Can anyone give an honest description of the sororities and which ones are actually worth joining?

go through rush and see where you feel most comfortable lol
if you go in with the mentality of just wanting specific sororities you will probably be disappointed in the end

Except formal recruitment isn’t about where the pnms fit in. It’s about the sororities picking who they want to best fit their image. There’s not point of lying. Pnms have no power. The top tier” sororities know who they want, if you’re not one of them, you’re not even given a chance.

Actually that's not true ^ I was a "nobody" I guess lmfao and was still given a bid to a top tier sorority.
All you have to do is be yourself and in the end it's a mutual selection. If you BOTH vibe with one another you will be invited to join that organization. Don't try to be someone you're not just to have the status of being in a top sorority.

It’s not about pretending to be someone you’re not to fit in. There are plenty of girls who drop/get dropped throughout the process who fit in at these sororities. It’s just unfair to pnms to lie about how “top tier” sororities have their eyes on certain people, and if you’re not one of them, it’s extremely difficult to get a bid from there. There’s a reason why so many girls that go through formal recruitment end up dropping. There told over and over to trust the process, but why should they trust a process that does not help them in any way?

Straight facts. If I had “trustEd the process” the first time I went thru formal I wouldn’t have joined the chapter I did later on. Trust your gut, don’t just join wherever you end up because youre told to, do it because you feel comfortable and can see yourself fitting in with the girls.

everyone commenting in here is just mad they got dropped hahaha

Not mad just spitting truth. If 5000 girls rush and half of them drop that doesn’t sound like a good process. Not enough spots to begin with

People drop out of recruitment because they're not getting bids from top tier but they don't even give others a chance and that screws all the other chapters too. If PNMs would stop dropping out and just join a chapter it would improve greeklife overall and increase everyone's chances of being happy smfh
STOP DROPPING OUT OF RECRUITMENT JUST BC TOP DIDN'T CALL YOU BACK. THERE ARE OTHER ORGS OUT THERE THAT ARE STILL FUN TOO

It’s not girls not joining too tier sororities that’s the problem. The bigger problem is sites like this perpetuating stereotypes, and giving pnms biases before they even get a chance to meet all the chapters. I understand that it really sucks that pnms don’t come in with an open mind and there are high drop rates because of that, but continuing the idea the idea that “you can be happy even if you’re not in a top tier sorority!” Isn’t the way to combat that. All sororities are great, but we shouldn’t have to feel like we’re settling for less than we deserve.

How full of yourself can you possibly be? We get it, you got what you wanted. Trust me, there’s plenty of girls who are just the same as you who slipped through the cracks. Being in phi sig/zta/gphi doesn’t make you special, it just means you did something to impress them.

All the people saying that pnms need to “trust the process” and give the “lower tier” sororities a chance are only contributing to the problem. We shouldn’t create an environment that makes it seem like pnms should have to settle. Rather than portraying the other options like this, we should try to put all sororities on a similar level. On another note, there are sororities that struggle for members each semester, yet last year when I went through formal recruitment, I met several girls who got dropped from every single chapter. This shouldn’t happen. We have so many beautiful strong women who deserve a place within our community, we should strive to create an environment where people feel welcome in all chapters, not that this is a competition.

Agreed on some level but sororities aren't clubs lol. You can't expect the chapters that aren't meeting their quotas to just extend bids to everyone. They are looking for women that will fit their sorority ideals/principles and will improve their chapter. There's a lot that goes into choosing new members
And as much as it sucks, there will always be a hierarchy it's impossible to even imagine having a world where everyone is on a "similar level"

I mean ur right, but some sororities really just pick girls that improve their image physically, even tho they really do not meet standards

Phi sig: very focused on their image and social status. Will only give you a bid if you’re pretty and have money.
ZTA: big time partiers and frats love them. They prefer tan blond girls. Also the most expensive sorority here.
Gphi: were viewed as the top of the top for a while for overall involvement and quality of sisters but have seemed to have fallen off recently with the date night incident. Bad stigma attached that will take a few years to recover but tend to bid veryyyy selectively.
SDT: very involved with philanthropy and also love to party. Not as good in the looks department and have a kinda fragmented sisterhood, known to be kinda catty. Heard they have super low dues.
AGD: officially not the “new” sorority anymore. Have been improving every semester. Think of a less refined SDT. They have an odd mix of sisters but it seems to work for them. Half of these girls are big time drinkers, the other half you wouldn’t even know were in AGD.
Phi mu: known as the nice/cute/smart girl sorority. They have been falling off recently in a few different departments (quality of girls/house/involvement) but still a solid mid tier. Higher gpa requirement so watch out for that.
AXO: still very new on campus so they’re bottom but have been doing relatively well. Seems like a diverse bunch with some cute girls but clearly have a few duds as all founding classes do. their performance in the spring will tell a lot about their future.
DG: have been pretty stagnant but clearly involved this semester. These girls love to drink but don’t know how to handle their alcohol. Below average in looks but seems like a good sisterhood.
SK: Small chapter at this point trying their best to stay afloat. The girls in this chapter have a super strong bond but the stigma attached to them is likely not going to go away. will give a bid to pretty much anyone.

Zeta: very pretty, very fun, very expensive, very image focused. Priorities are partying and looking hot. No doubt there are some great girls in this sorority but they care much more about how they look and how popular they are than how much they actually connect with sisters.

Phi Sig: no doubt a top tier and full of some nice and pretty girls but they very clearly think they're better than any other sorority and they do not hide it. Priorities are party relations with 1-3 frats dont care about their relationship with the rest of greek community at all

Gphi: used to be number one have fallen quite a bit this year. Still top tier and full of really pretty and smart girls. Frats love them and they do seem to have a genuine sisterhood but it's also a very selective and image focused group

SDT: have been talked about a lot this semester for deleting comments and being catty about other orgs. Nice and like to party but honestly wouldn't be shocked if they fell lower in rank within the year because people do not seem to be happy with them.

AGD: genuine girls who care about their sisterhood and each other. Not top tier but also don't pretend to be. have definitely improved a lot and fast but appears to have a few issues to work on. has been continuously rising but still has some stuff to learn

Phi Mu: known to be smart but no doubt not nearly what they used to be. they have a house now for next year which will help them stay relevant but no where near what they used to be.

DG: Solidly low tier. Filled with girls who genuinely care about their sisterhood and care more about strong bonds than anything lese but that also means that takes precedent over relations within other orgs and dont mix with many frats esp not good ones.

SK: they are nice girls who really love their sisterhood. unfortunately cant seem to stay afloat and may not be around next year which would be sad because they are really nice girls.
