why so much animosity towards "geeds?"

I really don't get it. I don't hate Greek life or anything. I plan on potentially getting involved. But one thing I noticed is that so many Greeks seem to look down upon GDIs and genuinely dislike them for the simple fact that they are what they are. Even looking at some of the posts on this site you can see it. I simply want to know why.
