sorority recruitment

by: clueless

I want to join a sorority next year, is it less likely that I will get a bid because I will be a sophomore? I only did informal rush this year so I don't really know what formal recruitment will be like but I decided it would be worth going through. Also, does this differ between houses? Which will be more likely to recruit an upperclassman?

while most girls that go through recruitment are freshmen, it's not at all unheard of for sophomores to get bids. most sororities took in between 3-7 sophomores each in their respective pledge classes this past year. from what i've heard, most sophomores who didnt get a bid were mostly the ones that dropped out of recruitment before pref night. i'd strongly encourage you to go through recruitment in the fall!

but go in with an idea of what houses you like from what you saw your freshman year. Sophomores are more likely to get their first pick that way.

You should DEFINITELY go through recruitment because as of 2 years ago, all sororities at Iowa have a separate quota for upperclassmen members. This means that being a sophomore is no longer viewed as a possible negative, so please go ahead and register for recruitment!
