how hard is it to colonize a new sorority?

by: Hi

Can someone help me out here? I'm interested in joining DZ, not sure how new sororities work though. Dz is a really strong house nationally so I feel like it might do well here. Do you still get to participate in all the events even though you're a new house? Do other houses treat you like you're lesser cuz you're new? Think it'd maybe be a fun journey but don't really know anything about it

Everyone was really supportive of Sigma Kappa their first year and they got to have a philanthropy within their first year too. I feel like with DZ already having a strong presence and a house, it won’t be hard to get them started.

The challenge will be all the hate the other groups throw at you after the first year. Where is their house going to be located?

Do they own the house or are they renting it?

I'm wondering the same thing. I didn't go through formal rush, because I had a wedding that week, and I was thinking of rushing as a sophomore. Now I'm thinking I might try Delta Zeta. I like the idea of something new, but Im' also a little hesitant. Are we sure they have an actual house?

Most people are predicting DZ will get into the middle tiers pretty quickly and kind of stay there. They may get into the high middle/ lower top within a couple of years, but I don't see them ever competing in the top of the top tiers. I also don't see them being low tier at any point. If you are looking for a house that will probably be pretty strong, I would recommend them. I'm pretty sure they will do well. They are very strong in the midwest and other regions If you are looking to be In the hottest house on campus, wait and go through rush next year.

Every new chapter starts by a absolute bottom of the ranks cause they need members and therefore can’t cant be selective. To assume they would move up to middle tier would mean at LEAST passing SK, Theta, and GPhi which is not only unheard of but is also just ridiculous. No matter how strong a sorority is nationally, that doesn’t influence their rank at any school in particular. For example, Tri Delt is a top house in many southern schools and Alpha Phi is popular on the west coast but not so much on the east coast. Theta and Pi Phi are way top at ASU, and Kappa is huge in the north east. For that matter I’m pretty sure Chi O is the literal largest sorority in the country, but none of those determine a chapters rank in their own school. Rankings are developed over years and the higher tiered houses usually have the privilege of being more selective with PNMs because they get chosen as a first choice on rush rankings the most and have the most selection.

DZ will start off awkward but similarly to SK they will probably be very involved in philanthropy events for other houses and have a house. They’ll be bottom tier until they can build a reputation for themselves (which is really only done when a house develops an overall vibe and personality) and only then will they be moving anywhere in ranks.

Actually, most people do not think this at all.

This is literally a fact. No house comes onto a campus and is anywhere but bottom tier. Not sure why you would try to argue that but I’m right haha and I promise it’ll be accurate come next term.
