Sig Ep is a rechartering fraternity, meaning that if you join you would be considered a “founder” for the fraternity. Being a founder of a fraternity is a very different experience than joining an already established one. You are not a “pledge” because you, as a founder, are creating the traditions which a “pledge” participates in. It is considered a lot more challenging since you are literally creating everything from scratch (networks, relationships, campus precense, brotherhood, etc.). That said, it can also be rewarding and look good on your resume saying that you helped establish a fraternity on campus. However, if you’re looking for a more “typical” greek life experience, I would say just join any of the established IFC ones (SAE, Pi Kapp, Phi Tau, Sig Chi). Just to reiterate, the experiences from founding a fraternity, is not the same as joining an already established one.

i'd say if you want a traditional greek exprience, dont do it. founding a chapter is so hard. but if you do want to be part of creating a chapter that you can shape, that would be good for you. but you wont get the traditional experience

SigEp is recruiting men who have the confidence to be different. SigEp's Balanced Man Program is a life-changing process for its members now that we gotten alcohol out of the chapter house. It is no longer be just a place where where "frat bros" and their groupies go to party for four years.

Hazing and traditional initiation is unnecessary because people who embody the values Sig Ep represents — academic diligence, dedication to the community and the campus — will bond organically because of the values that they share inclusively.
