Can someone please explain?
by: ?Can someone please explain why AGD is still here? Why were they give a brand new house when they can not even keep their chapter half the size of a normal chapter? I was talking to my aunt, who was in one of the sororities that was kicked off and came back, and she said that it has always been this way with AGD and some wealthy alum keeps the chapter floating, but how is that possible since they have been not doing well since the 80's?

One reason the bottom tier sororities won't rise to the next tier is Panhellenic formal recruitment. The one that has come closest is Alpha Phi. Imagine how the tiers would change if individual sororities were able to compete for PNMs anytime, like the fraternities. The lazy and self-satisfied would decline and the hard-working and ambitious would rise. Free market.

It’s way different then how it was in the 80s. They just had a great fall recruitment, almost 50 new members. They’re still here because not every woman fits the high standards that the “top tier” houses have come to hold. They offer a Greek life experience for those who want it but don’t need all the high expectations and who can’t afford the large dues. I’d recommend that you stop judging a house based on its numbers and looks and more on the type of women inside it, just a suggestion though.

When I went through recruitment I heard that back in the 80's they were really good but got caught hazing and never recovered from the sanctions that were put upon them. However, they're a really old chapter with a beautiful house and a strong sisterhood. If they are okay with having a smaller house and Panhellenic is okay with it too, there's nothing to criticize them about.
