dormant chapters

by: fsu

A bunch of old frats' suspensions technically ended this spring - Lambda Chi, Sigma Nu, Sigma Chi, and most recently Chi Phi. Are any of these chapters considering coming back anytime soon? These are all well-recognized fraternities nationally and would be very good for the Greek Life scene in general.

Why isn't anyone working to set these up? FSU is known for its greek life and with 15 active frats that just isn't enough to be interesting anymore.

Sigma Nu has been gone a long time, but their nationals pulled them not the school. Now they are ready to return. Great national. Sigma Nu was one of the original fraternities chartered by FSU back in 1949. Looking forward to seeing them come back, plus all the others like Sigma Chi, LZA, Phi Delt, Delt, etc.
By the way, was there ever a number of years for Delt's suspension, or was it their national?

Tbh Lamds chi will probably never come back(it’s hard to come back after killing a girl) Even though yes the brothers are gone that reputation will always be there.

LXA is on their way back. The shooting was an accident. If it had happened in an apartment complex LXA would still be here. Neither LXA or Pi Kapp are “permanently banned”.
Sigma Chi, Phi Delt too are all in their way back.

But phi delt is gone till 2023/2024, I hope they come back before because they were great, hopefully sigma chi comes back because they are a great fraternity nationally

Sigma Chi applied for reinstatement, as long as IFC is open for expansion, they'll be back for fall

NIC fraternity chapters are not allowed to vote no in any other NIC fraternity expansion. Lambda Chi, Sig Ep and Phi Delt are not members of the IFC.
Sigma chi is a sure bet. And they are great. Any mid tier fraternity sitting in its butt will get rolled over.

Neither are Kappa Sigma and TKE members of the NIC, so they need to be very careful as to not get kicked off campus.

Reinstatement is not entirely up to IFC. The national inter fraternity conference has recently passed resolution that any legitimate member of NIC applies to return every NIC fraternity must vote yes. Ironically, LXA, Phi Delt and Sig Ep are not members if NIC.

These threads make me sad. Alumni of closed chapters are truly lost souls. God bless.

Sorry, IFC is not going to re-colonize multiple frats in the same year or even in the same few years. Pi Lamb just came back and will be given a few semesters to re-establish. Chi Phi is probably next up but not till fall 2021 at earliest. Everyone else will have to get in the Queue. Its a long, long road back. Thanks #metoo generation.

Not to throw cold water on the post, but the IFC really has nothing to say about it. According to the National Interfraternity Conference rules, every chapter of every NIC fraternity MUST vote yes on a fellow expansion request.
The IFC DOES have the authority to specify certain appropriate requirements on new colonies, but they cannot vote to keep someone off or delay their colonizing.
The whole fraternity system at FSU will be much improved when the major competitors start up again. Figure 15,000 male undergraduates which gives plenty of prospects. LAZY fraternities ae going to be out of luck (talkin' to you Kappa Sig).
