Greek life at Hillsdale is great! It’s a lot healthier than big state schools where hazing and alcohol poisoning are a main state. This is probably because as a smaller school Greek houses have to be more friendly and can’t have huge hazing traditions since they can’t afford to be picky. Frat rushing is great since it’s informal and very inviting in most frats. Formal sorority rushing is terrible however since your social reputation and drama reign causes sororities to drop you before your even pledge. The Panhellenic council is so anal about dirty rushing but probably for good reason. Most sororities are very friendly though and you can meet good girls in any of them but their stereotypes are pretty accurate. Sorority rushing basically feels like the sororities choose you and not the other way around and many of the girls just get whatever sorority they can. Chi O seems to be the most popular although since the Panhellenic council limits the sororities to 30 bids a semester no one sorority has more members than others. In general the weekends at Hillsdale are pretty fun as you know at least a couple off campus house will go up, and with the small student population it’s nice to go to parties where you know most people although some frats can be rather unwelcoming. Some weekends can be disappointing if people are too tired out by the rigor of classes although there are some weekends in the semester that are guaranteed to be a blast in which you can bounce from party to party. Greek life used to be huge and had a more party scene but it’s still good at a school like Hillsdale and with a few exceptions is quite healthy and a model of what Greek life should be.
