Great advice above...and here's mine. 1) Don't take it personally when you are cut. Rush at OM is extremely competitive and there are cuts for grades, having no connections and cuts that happen seemingly for no reason. I've known girls who got so upset when they were cut that it affected the rest of their rush. 2) Every house has great girls. Ignore the tier talk, go to every party as if it's the house you want (even if you might not think so) and try to have fun. 3) Make sure your resume shows any leadership positions you held, not just activities. 4) Polish your style and conversation skills; first impressions matter. Don't talk non-stop; I've seen girls cut because they talked non-stop and never let actives speak - literally. This is especially important when no-one knows you and can't vouch for you being great. 5) Do you know any Ole Miss alums who can write recs? Those carry more weight than non-OM alums, but get recs from anyone you can. 6) I hate this cliche, but it's true: trust the process. 7) Realize that rush is stressful for everyone. 8) If you get a bid, show up at your new home with gratitude and excitement. That means we want you and are thrilled, so please be excited too (some girls aren't...).
