Housing will ALWAYS say that. Truth is, it will be harder to get a new roommate once you are there, than now. Seriously, push back on this one. You are in college now. Time to assert yourself and do what's best for you. Do you really want to start school knowing that this is your roommate for the entire year? Roommate issues can be tricky enough when you like the person. When you don't? It is wretched. Dorm rooms are VERY small. You are getting good advice here from people who have been there and done it already. Take it.
