If you go to the U of I, you’ve probably heard of a little thing called Unofficial. It’s that one weekend of the year that students that come from all around to party all day and night together. It started back when students back in 1995 realized that St. Patrick’s Day fell during Spring Break and decided to have it a little bit earlier.

Food trucks are located in places they normally never park. They are strategically placed on Green St from morning to late at night for those who have the munchies from celebrating all day.
See people running in their underwear down Green Street. The Underwear Mile is a fundraising event held by Illini 4000. Students strip down to their unmentionables, pay $5, and run from Frat Park to Foellinger Hall.
Saw people you thought graduated already. It’s not uncommon to see people that you know graduated the year before to come back and participate in the Unofficial activities. Some former students have been known to fly from other states. Woke up and heard loud party music at 7 AM. Maybe you were one of those kids that set your alarm for 7 am, even though you can’t wake up for class, so you could start Unofficial right or maybe you were that unlucky soul that woke up to the music blasting in the frat house next door.

Ditched your jacket at home. Who needs to be warm when you have alcohol, right? You see quite a number of people venture out without a jacket on, despite the cold temperatures.
See copious amounts of trash everywhere. Whether you’re in Frat Park or anywhere near apartments, you most likely saw dozens upon dozens of red cups and beer cans littered around house and parking lots. Maybe even some broken bottles. Saw drunk people laughing in class. Yes, it actually happens. People go to their mandatory attendance classes.
