Why Being A Transfer Student Is The Worst

Transfer students: the least important people on the entire college campus. You’d think Universities would treat transfer students well – after all, they transferred in and can easily transfer out. But as a transfer student myself, I’ve learned that it doesn’t quite work this way. Here are 5 unfortunate aspects of being a transfer student
:

1.You get last choice for housing.

Let’s face it, you’re not getting a dorm on campus. I was number 364 on the female waitlist to live on campus for the Fall. The odds were not in my favor. And another thing? They don’t seem to care where you end up, as long as your bill is paid. Tiem to learn learn how to fend for yourself in a brand new city where you know nothing and no one. I feel your pain.

2.You’re the lowest of the low.

It doesn’t matter if you’re coming in as a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior – if you’re  a transfer student, you are now being treated as being “less than” freshman. You’ve been in college, you know how things work, and yet your undeniable worth is now being degraded as being that of a newbie who doesn’t know the first thing about what’s going on in college.

3.Don’t even think about getting the classes you want.

The idea of being less as a freshman is crucial here. You pick last. Classes are closed. You’ll now be forced to sign up for M-F 8ams. You’re schedule sucks. That’s life. Move on.

4.Credits. You’ll lose some. Accept it.

You’re being punished for leaving the school you hate to go to a school you love. Now you won’t graduate on time. That art class you took last semester that fulfilled a stupid gen-ed? It’s now a waste of time because there’s no way it’ll transfer as any type of credit.

5.Making friends is harder than it should be.

Friend groups have been made. And you weren’t there. Now you’re the awkward girl (or guy) that has to butt into other conversations and make yourself be an extrovert. And what if you’re not a partier? GOOD LUCK. Because what I’ve learned from transferring into a big university is that no one has time for you in class. They roll in, sit on their laptops, and then book it out of there. Socializing doesn’t happen unless you already know someone. You have to find ways to put yourself out there. Make yourself go to a party. Join a club, or a study group, DO SOMETHING. You need friends and surprisingly enough, this may be the hardest you’ve ever had to work to make them.
