What are the advantages of being a legacy? Or does it really not matter?

At least in my sorority, legacies are considered higher than any other PNMs. They get more consideration and are a higher priority because, at least for is, we really care about retaining our legacies, especially if they are legacies to the Alabama chapter or have a sister who is in house. Girls that have sisters that are in house now are pretty much already considered part of our sorority. But being a legacy doesn't guarantee you a bid so don't count on your legacy house to take you of you have nothing going for you. We have cut multiple girls that were double legacies for that so don't just assume you're safe.

It mostly depends on the house. Like say Phi Mu is not going to necessarily care as much because a fifth of the girls coming through are Phi Mu legacies, but Alpha Phi, who does not have another large chapter here in Alabama and a lot of the girls coming through may not be legacies, will take their legacies a lot more seriously. So it depends on the number of legacies each house gets for the most part. In some cases, being a legacy can hurt you. Each house, if there are a ton of legacies, can only take so many legacies so they can take non-legacy girls, too.

When can being a legacy hurt you?

Being a legacy can hurt you at houses that are not your legacy house. For example,If phi mu sees that you're a triple legacy to kd, why would they waste an invitation on a girl that probably won't even pledge them? That's why unless you are 100% certain that the only house you would ever want is your legacy house you should leave off the fact that you are a legacy at another house on all of your resumes and recs to other houses.

Have your mom sister etc go on national site and fill out legacy form. This will keep you on national radar.

If you're an in-house legacy your options will be VERY limited.

I wouldn't leave off your legacy status. The sororities will probably know anyway from your recommendation. If you'd really prefer NOT to pledge your legacy group, tell everyone during the first rounds of recruitment.

But the way recruitment is this year, no other houses' can see your legacy status. So let's say you're a triple legacy at Pi Phi, but you really want Alpha Gam. Alpha Gam isn't going to know your legacy status. So put all your legacies down.

it'll help you survive the first couple of rounds of cuts, but after that you're on your own.
