Pretty competitive. You're pretty much either in the bottom or the top and that's determined by grades, looks, or both. So if you have average looks and an average GPA, good houses aren't going to make exceptions for you because they know they can do better.
NO ORDER
Top: APhi, Theta, AXO, GPhi, Pi Phi, DG, Kappa, Chi O
Bottom: KD, Tri Delt, AOPi, AXiD, Phi Mu, ADPi, Theta Phi Alpha

agreed with what was said above.. UNL is very competitive. Those with good grades will get into better houses, if two PNMs have the same gpa and one composes herself better or is better looking, that one is getting the bid. That's just how it is. there is a little separation with a middle tier, but its not that distinct. The very good and the very bad will be quite distinct during rush.. If you are a legacy to one house, be prepared to be dropped by others because they assume that is where you are going to end up.

The post and reply are spot on. I was a legacy to one house and got dropped by a lot of other houses because they assumed I would want to be in my sister's sorority which wasn't the case, so be careful when you're talking about that kind of stuff because sororities here don't really like taking chances on another houses legacy.

In addition to this in 2014 only 50% of girls even got into a house.

I mean only 50% of women may have pledged a chapter but 84% of women were still going through the formal recruitment process into preference day, when you're guaranteed a bid (if you play fair). Most women who do not join a chapter do so out of their own choice. It is very, very rare (maybe 10 women out of 1,200) to actually not be invited back to any chapters.

^ this isn't very accurate, if you play fair you are guaranteed a bid no matter what, but if you go into 6 or 3 party day with only a house or two that you like/top tier houses, that bid will most likely be for ADPi or Theta Phi Alpha because they are trying to fill their quota. Almost every girl that dropped on bid day dropped because they got one of those two houses, only about 20% of the girls that go through rush will end up in one of the houses listed above as "top."

It is just best to understand that you will need to be the best version of yourself when going through recruitment if you would like a house that you would want. It is true that very few girls get their first pick, but remember to be opened minded and out-going. You usually end up in the right place.
