History UT did not set aside land for Greek Life. Greeks were not very well liked pre ww2. SMU, Texas and Southwestern were the only Greek schools in Texas until 1953.

I don't know know what you're talking about, but my chapter was chartered well before 1953.

What schools in the state of Texas had Greeks before 1953 UT did , SMU did and Southwestern. TCU started greeklife in 1955, Texas Tech 1953, A&M in 1973, Baylor in1976. Texas was a somewhat populist/religious state before WW 2. UT did not set up. Greek row because the legislature was pretty anti Greek. Remember Mississippi, Arkansas and S Carolina all banned Greek letter societies in the late 19th early 20th century. That's why there are no Greek houses on campus.

if we had more university regulations to deal with.

No thanks. It only sucks for the houses that don't have houses/don't have the land to build a bigger house.

Is the administration anti-Greek? It's interesting that UT's Greek system is so strong, yet housing costs are such a big issue because the school doesn't chip in.

pay out of the ass for it. Our dues are way more than any other Texas school. The big 4 is probably more than almost anyone any other fraternity in the country. I personally like it because it keeps the riff raff out.

The Kappa and Alpha Phi houses are not "on campus". The land and buildings are privately owned by the sororities, just like all the other sorority houses "around campus".

Across the street from the littlefield fountain is NOT UT property.

UT property but they have UT property basically surrounding them on all sides. It's like an island of private property in the middle of campus.
