every house and 800 girls the first day?

by: HOW

someone told me that over 800 girls go through fall formal recruitment. How do all the sororities manage to meet and talk to each one of them on the first day of rush?!?

The group of girls going through is divided into 13 groups (the number of sororities at Cal). The thirteen groups travel from house to house to meet the members. If eight hundred girls go through, there will be 61 girls in each group. The houses return in the fall with roughly 70-90 members, so there are plenty of members to talk to every one. Additionally, each house arranges to mingle in a way that allows each girl to meet several of the members. Naturally the first day is just a first impression on both sides, but It works.

That was very informative!

Do you know how many girls end up at each house (approximately) on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th days?

Houses are required to have similar numbers of people returning every day (so houses with more interested people will have to make harsh cuts the first few days, and some won't cut that many until the end).

Mads is right. Girls who decide not to continue to go through recruitment drop out each day so that makes the groups smaller each day. Panhellenic has a formula that all houses follow that spreads the PNMs equally among all the houses based on mutual selection. In the past two years the final new member class size for all groups has been approx 40-45.
