Do most sororities take a decent amount of sophomores in formal? or is is a very big disadvantage?

It doesn't really matter at Ohio State. Since greek life isn't that big here, a lot of girls end up waiting until their sophomore year to rush. Sophomores in formal recruitment are pretty common.

This question has been asked a million times, so here's your stats/chances:

1. DG, KKG, Peef, KAO, APhi - will take 5-7 sophomores
...... so the top tier as a whole will take 25-35 sophomores total.......

2. KD, DDD, XO, AGD - will take 10-15 sophomores
...... so the middle tier will take about 40-60 sophomores total........

3. AXID, AXO, GPhi, DZ, AEPhi, AOPi - will take 20-30 sophomores
....... so the bottom tier will take the majority, 120-180 sophomores total.

It's easy to see where you stand the best chance. If you don't think you're one of the top third of sophomore pnms, then you won't be in the top or middle tier and you're best bet is to try hard at Alpha Xi or Alpha Chi.

This is one of the most accurate lists that I have read. The 4 in the middle might be closer to 8-12 per chapter based on last year's quota, but if quota is >60 10-15 might be right.

sophomores: ^this is what you need to look at!!!!!
based on these stats, roughly:

13% of sophomore pnms will be placed in a top tier house
22% of sophomore pnms will end up in a middle tier house
and 65% of sophomore pnms will be in the bottom tier.

That even if you don't get into a top house, you'll still be social, have the same experiences etc. Everyone gets cut from one or more of their favourite houses, it's not the end of the world. Recruitment is a numbers game!

The soph. that make it in the top tier house 99% of the time have friends in the house so basically if you are a soph who doesn't know anyone in the top tier houses you most likely will be cut.
