honest question

by: ???

Would someone please explain to me why the prevailing opinion on Delta Tau Delta is "bottom tier with no hope" on here. They have a house, a spot on the quad, do well academically and have decent philanthropy/service? And before anybody says it, no I'm not a DTD.

since they are perceived to be so bad, no one will give them a chance to prove themselves

It's actually really sad that a fraternity (not just DTD) can do a lot to improve but not improve because Clemson just has a very traditional view towards which fraternities are top and there really isn't a whole lot of change other than just moving amongst tiers. A fraternity (again not just DTD) could throw far better parties than a "top" fraternity like KA and SNu and really never rise in the eyes of the tier system. But then again why do tiers even matter. Go where you fit in most.

Also because if a fraternity (like DTD) does start to rise, it poses a threat to the middle tier fraternities if it rises from the bottom and thus they come on here and spew utter crap to keep said fraternity at the bottom. Well at least at the bottom according to this site.

Their brothers are a bunch of weirdos. You can do all the community service you want, if you have the personality of a wet rag you won't get anywhere.

You could say almost all of those things about the other lower tier fraternities. dtd does have some cool guys but so do phi tau, tke, phi sig, delta chi, alpha sig, etc. same with philanthropy work, grades, current/former quad, houses... Takes far more than those to be top or else everyone would be

Sigma Pi was the only 'new' or lower tier house that ever flirted with top tier because they just got a couple really good pledge classes with a bunch of guys from Porter Gaud and for a couple years Sig Pi partied with Kappa and Zeta but that didn't last it never does. Tradition always wins. Better off going Pi Kapp at least there is some history and they'll work their way up to the middle tier at some point.

all the old fraternities- sae, pike, kappa sig, sigma nu, ato were the ones who ran the upper quad when the quad was still the place to be. Sig Chi and Sig Ep managed to move into the upper quad later on. All of them have been getting the coolest guys since frats were here and it will always continue that way because of alumni support and money.

But the tiers change within those old fraternities right

You think DTD isn't fair? Phi Tau actually built an entire fraternity complex for themselves and are still having a hard time. It's just that the tiers are engrained in Clemson and it takes a lot to move tradition.

I wouldn't say they are having a hard time. Nearly every bid they gave out last semester was excepted. A lot of people seem to want to go there
