Attention Potential New Members! With recruitment just around the corner, it might be difficult to imagine what you could talk about with current sorority members for 15-, 30-, and even 40-minute intervals of time. There’s the obligatory, “So how's recruitment going for you?” “Good, and you?” that you’ll go through, as well as talking about your home town, and your major. But then what
?

Here are the best questions to ask members while you’re going through recruitment.

  • Why did you choose this chapter?
  • What other organizations are you and your sisters involved in on campus?
  • What is your favorite sisterhood event?
  • What’s your relationship like with your big/twin/grandbig/family?
  • What is big/little week like?
  • What is your favorite part about your philanthropy/philanthropy event?
  • How can I get involved as a new member?
  • What are some of the leadership positions and what’s the election process like?
  • Are there leadership positions I can hold as a new member?
  • What do you and your sisters do when you just hang out?
  • Why did you decide to go through recruitment?
  • Can you tell me about the big Greek events on campus? For example, Greek Week, POTH, etc.
  • How do you balance both being in a sorority and your grades?
  • What is the Panhellenic Counsel and how does it work?
  • Do you live with your sisters? If so, what is your favorite part about it?
  • What are some of your favorite new member memories?
  • Is sorority life what you expected it to be as a PNM? Why/Why not?
  • What is the best thing about your sorority?
  • Is there anyone in your chapter from my hometown?
  • How have you gotten to know the members who weren’t in your pledge class?

Remember to stay away from the 4 B’s:

  • Boys
  • Booze
  • Bucks
  • Beliefs

Keep the questions open-ended and about topics that you’re interested in. Follow up the questions by relating your personal experiences to them. For example, if you were class president in high school, bring that up when you ask about leadership opportunities. Don’t forget to listen to the responses that members give you, since they give you some insight as to what the chapter is like. Finally, take a deep breath, and trust the process.

Best of luck during recruitment, ladies!
