Greek life is alive and well in the State of Alabama. The University of Alabama sororities reported handing out 2,338 bids while Auburn saw 1,401. Every year these two schools hold massive bid days. It makes one wonder if the state of Alabama is the fratiest and srattiest in the country. Let’s take a look at some of the numbers and other tidbits.

University of Alabama
Here are some stats according to the University of Alabama’s Division of Student Life:
34% of the undergraduate student body is greek
10,000+ undergraduates participate in greek life
64 social Greek-letter organizations
For the first time in many years, Bama did not break its own record for largest recruitment ever. Last year’s record of 2,488 will stay for now.

Auburn University
Here are some stats according to Auburn’s student newspaper, the Plainsman:
25% of the undergraduate student body is greek
~5,600+ undergraduates participate in greek life
54 social Greek-letter organizations
In previous years, bid day has drawn what the university sees as an unnecessary number of spectators, so they implemented a wrist band system that limits access to the portion of campus where the event is held.

Last August, GreekRank highlighted 5 of the largest sorority recruitments in the South.  Florida State (2,077), University of Arkansas (1660), and University of Georgia (1,553) all had impressive showings. Depending on how other greek communities in the state of Florida do, possibly the state of Alabama has a challenger.
