I am a UT alum too so I am specifically speaking about Tennessee's chapter. I've lost touch with the guys since 2008, so I don't think much has changed. I know we just got a new house, so I expect them to do really well and make up for the past year or two due to the condition of the house.

I was a Lambda Chi in 2006. You go through a pretty intensive pledge process, but instead of being called a pledge you are called an Associate. It's very similar to pledging and you are not handed any of your letters, unlike Sig Ep.

Lambda Chi Alpha did do away with Pledging, there is Associate Membership now. All the rights of a brother means you have a voice and can hold positions. But you still must go through education, get your big brother, etc etc etc. It's not as simple as the "letters on day one" rumor. Standards are actually higher for membership in LCA chapters than MOST pledging chapters at my old school, and we had 30 fraternity chapters on campus.
