8 Reasons to Look Forward to Going Home For the Summer

With final exams quickly approaching, there is nothing more motivating than knowing you’ll soon be test and stress free for a whopping three months. Whether you are a fan of moving back home with mom and dad for the summer, or dreading the long-term visit to your good ol’ hometown, there are a few things that we can all agree keep us racing to the finish line of final exams week.

1. Home Cooked Meals

Don’t get me wrong, while switching off between ramen noodles and frozen pizza for dinner every night gets the job done, there’s only so much of it that one college student can take. Summer means mom or dad being home from work in time to cook you a different meal every night of the week, quite a luxury if you ask me.

2. Seeing Your Dog

A man (or woman’s) best friend. While I personally don’t have a dog, whose to say I can’t be excited to invite myself over to my hometown friends’ homes to play with their dogs that I’ve missed just as much as if it was my own. After all, in true friendship, sharing is caring, right?

3. Hometown Homies

Dogs might come first on your to see list, but you can never forget the first friends you ever made who were right by your side every time you got into trouble back in your younger years. There’s nothing like sitting around a bonfire and reminiscing on that time you got caught egging your 6th grade teacher’s house, (sorry mom).

4. Sleeping In A Real Bed

Having a bed is better than having no bed, true. However, you don’t appreciate your bed at home until you’ve had to sleep in an old, creaky, twin sized bed that smells of sweat and regrets. You know how the saying goes, home is where your bed is (or something like that).

5. Just Sleeping

For those of us who decide to take the procrastination route to final exams, we know that the week consist of nothing but all-nighters. Before you know it, we’ll we wasting away our summer days by sleeping until noon to make up for all the hours the school year took away from us.

6.Vacation Time

Whether vacationing to you means an extravagant expense paid trip to the Bahamas, courtesy of mom and dad, or going to your local beach with a few friends, either one is better than slaving away over your desk for endless hours.

7. Making Money

If you’ve never had your bank account hit the single digits, are you really in college? Even though summer is a time for relaxing, it also gives you the opportunity to take on your old part-time job to save some bills for the next semester of spending money on all kinds of things you don’t need.

8. Back To School Countdown

And lastly, looking forward to care free summer days can only be so enjoyable until you start missing the life of staying out until 4 a.m., sleeping until 2 p.m., and having no parents around constantly looking over your shoulder and telling you what to do. So while you are busy the next few weeks trying to just slide by final exams, remember that before you know it…syllabus week will be upon us again.
